FAQ

Get answers to common questions about my design services.

How do I get started?

You’ll get the most value from our initial consultation if you do a little homework first. Collect examples of what you like and don’t like beforehand. Share Pinterest, Houzz, ideas, magazine clips, photos, fabric, and anything else that can help me understand your style. Once you’ve collected your examples, contact me to set up your initial consultation.

How do you decide what my room needs?

I look at the following factors when determining what a room requires:

Style: I first gain a thorough understanding of your unique style and preferences. Through detailed discussions, visual inspiration, and design boards, I look at your aesthetic tastes, color choices, and overall vision for the space.

Budget: Then I consider your budget and what you want to spend to make informed decisions regarding furniture, materials, and other elements. This can involve exploring cost-effective alternatives and prioritizing key elements to maximize the impact within the budget constraints.

Appropriateness: Finally, I draw inspiration from your existing architecture and surroundings to ensure that the proposed style is appropriate for the space and your lifestyle.

How much do you charge?

After an initial consultation, I charge a flat hourly rate. I don’t purchase the furniture or take a cut of that purchase. There are no ‘kickbacks.’ If I suggest something for your project, it’s because I believe it meets the style, budget, and appropriateness considerations we set at the beginning of the project.

Initial Consult – $250: In the initial consultation, we’ll discuss your goals for the space, your design preferences, and your budget. In some cases, this may be all you need to get started.

Flat Hourly Rate – $125: If, after the initial consultation, additional work is desired, the flat rate will apply. I offer custom design based on your needs, and a retainer may apply to larger projects.

Is my project too small? Too big?

Probably not. Even a small job can get inspiration from what you’ll learn with an initial consultation. With a bigger job, I might bring in additional resources as needed.

Can I talk to references?

Yes, my clients love to share their stories about the work I’ve completed with them!

Do you have builders, painters, and other trades you prefer or suggest?

While I don’t hire trades people, I do have a list of services and contacts that can help.

Do we have to do everything at once?

You decide how much or how little we do. We can tackle it all at once or go room by room—with the latter being the approach for most folks. However, I recommend that we develop a big-picture plan of what you want to accomplish overall.
